Andrew Mercado, director of University Ministry, is the recipient of the Rev. Charles Forsyth Award from the Catholic Campus Ministry Association (CCMA).

The Rev. Charles Forsyth Award recognizes a campus minister who exemplifies outstanding leadership and excellence in campus ministry at local, regional and national levels. Mercado will receive the award during the CALLED 25 Conference at the University of Notre Dame on June 3.

Mercado was recognized for his dedication to 鈥渉olistic student formation, mission engagement, and vocational discernment through the lens of spirituality and social justice.鈥 He was credited with revitalizing sacramental life at 不良研究所 by leading cultural celebrations such as Las Posadas, D铆a de los Muertos and the feast day of La Virgen de Guadalupe, and through interfaith engagement.

His involvement in Dominican University鈥檚 PASOS Network, which advances the practices of culturally responsive ministry in higher education, was also noted, as were his presentations at national conferences including the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities and LaRED.

鈥淸Andrew鈥檚] expertise in culturally responsive ministry has helped shape programs that support underrepresented students and enhance the inclusivity of campus ministry across institutions,鈥 CCMA said in a news release. 鈥淐olleagues and students alike recognize Andrew鈥檚 passion, creativity, and commitment to fostering a vibrant faith community. His collaboration with Dominican鈥檚 PASOS Network has helped develop national-level initiatives that emphasize faith, culture, and social justice, ensuring that students from diverse backgrounds feel heard and supported.鈥

鈥淎ndrew embodies Pope Francis鈥 vision of young people as 鈥榡oyful protagonists,鈥欌 said Dr. Clodagh Weldon, vice president for Mission and Ministry at Dominican University. 鈥淗is energy, authenticity, and deep faith are transforming campus ministry.鈥

Mercado joined Dominican in 2022 as associate director of University Ministry. He has a B.A. in Healthcare Management and Sociology from College of Our Lady of the Elms, and an M.A. in Higher Education Administration: Spirituality, Faith and Formation from Boston College.
